Sembawang Shopping Centre (SSC), which was re-developed and re-opened in December 2008, is situated in close proximity to Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations. The mall provides a free shuttle bus service which plies between SSC and near the Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations as well as between SSC and residential estate at Woodlands Avenue Six and Seven. On weekdays, SSC also operates a free lunch-time shuttle bus to the nearby industrial estate.
With its positioning as a one-stop family-oriented necessity shopping destination, SSC appeals to residents from the surrounding estates, uniformed personnel from nearby military camps, as well as workers from the neighbouring industrial parks.
Sembawang Shopping Centre boasts of being the first mall to build the biggest splash park in Singapore. Spanning 15,000 square feet, the interactive spray features and water toys provide much entertainment and amusement for children of all ages.
The design concept is to bring interactivity and uniqueness into the playground, thus attracting higher patronage to the mall itself. Departing from a traditional playground, PLAYPOINT has designed a combination of water play and dry play within the park. The difference in elevation between the dry and wet zones creates a multi-layered playground which further enhances the design of its landscape.
