The business was started by William Clark in 1778 as a drapers’ store, at 44 Wigmore Street in London. William Debenhams joined the firm as a partner in 1813, and the business name was changed to Clark & Debenhams. Following Clement Freebody’s entry into the market in 1851, its name was again changed to Debenhams & Freebody, and in 1905, the business was incorporated as Debenhams Limited.
On 4th September 2003, Debenhams opened its largest store in the UK at the new Bull Ring shopping center in Birmingham, after closing its operations in Birmingham 20 years earlier. Debenhams offers shoppers a unique selection of top-class fashion clothing for women, men, and kids. Some of the products available are; dresses, tops & t-shirts, coats & jackets, bikinis & swimwear, jeans, shoes, boots, suits, blazers, chinos, big & tall, etc. Some of the brands available are; Hammond & Co. by Frank Patrick Grant, Nautica, Levi, Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, Wrangler, etc.
