Topshop was founded as Peter Robinson’s Top Shop in 1964, as a youth fashion brand. Topshop was created as a spin-off brand to offer high-quality fashion garments for male customers, and the first Topshop store was opened in 1970.
Topshop had unprecedented success when it opened its first store in New Zealand on 1 May 2010. The store sold out some of its range of clothing even before the store opened. Topshop’s international operations have been very successful; in 2011 Topshop opened in South Wales and Victoria in Australia, 2012 in South Africa, and 2013 in Brisbane. Topshop also opened a Topshop-Topman store in Cape Town in 2013. The same year Topshop opened its first store at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, France.
