Real is a European hypermarket, member of the German trade and retail giant Metro AG. All stores were rebranded as realReal places a high priority on quality and freshness in the food segment, which accounts for the bulk of sales but also offers a large selection of electronics, books, sound storage devices, household goods, sports products, toys and leisure products, as well as clothing and shoes. In addition to branded products, several own-brands are offered including discount label TiP (Toll in Preis=Great Price), mid-price Real Quality, premium brand Real selection, Real Bioorganic products and Watson consumer electronics. The selling space of the Real stores ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 square meters, with store assortments including up to 80,000 items.
It was established in 1992, from the merger of chains Diva, Basar, Continent, Esbella and Real-Kkauf. In 2006, Metro acquired Wal-Mart’s 85 stores in Germany and bought 26 Géant hypermarkets in Poland from the French retail group Groupe Casino.
Real has been active in Poland since 1997. In November 2012, Auchan took over 91 of the Real hypermarkets in Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. About 300,000 employees from 150 nations are working at around 2 100 Real stores in 34 countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. They have 56 locations throughout Poland.
