Set up in 1991, Matras began its expansion in the Polish book market shortly after the end of Communism by acquiring bookstores from the former state-run Books’ House (Dom Książki) chain. With 172 outlets in 94 Polish cities, Matras is second only to local chain Empik which operates about 200 outlets in 104 cities, with 23 of these located in Poland’s capital city Warsaw.
They offer more than 130,000 titles of books and a few million copies of literature, through biographies, to books for children in more than 170 bookstores in 70 cities throughout the Polish. Readers will find our best-sellers and not only news but also niche positions and sought after by connoisseurs. Titles not available on the shelf at the moment can be ordered from booksellers or Matras bookstore on www.matras.pl. We cooperate with 120 independent bookstores, we supply about 100 libraries and deliver books to 1,500 bookstores and 1,900 other customers (schools, public institutions, companies). We work with approx. 1,500 publishers. In 2013 the decision of customers received the title of Good Mark 2013 – Quality, Trust, Reputation in the category: bookstore chain.
