Kappahl is a Swedish international clothing chain based in Mölndal outside Gothenburg. It has nearly 400 stores and approximately 4500 employees in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland. KappAhl’s mission is “Affordable fashion for many people – women, men, and children. In addition to retail sales, Kappahl conducts e-commerce on the Swedish market.
Kappahl was the first fashion chain in the world to be certified according to the environmental management standard ISO 14001 in 1999, and 18 percent of the range is eco-labeled. Kappahl sold 2013 more than 50 million garments. The company is listed on the Nasdaq OMX Stockholm.
The first Kappahl store opened in spring 1953 in a basement at Detour in Kallebäck in Gothenburg. Founder Per-Olof Ahlstrom ‘s business concept was based on giving all women the opportunity to go well dressed for an affordable price. The low prices and high volumes got company significant public attention and threatened to boycott the rest of the industry. Key Products Group was cloak and initially sold over 400 coats every day.
