John Lewis is a chain of upscale retail department stores located all over the United Kingdom and owned by the John Lewis Partnership. John Lewis’ story started back in 1864 with the first John Lewis store in Oxford Street, London. John Lewis is familiar with its policy slogan, ”Never Knowingly Undersold,” which has been in use right from 1925, till date. John Lewis has 43 stores located all over England, Scotland and Wales.
The John Lewis flagship store opened in 1864 as a drapery store and was opened by John Lewis himself. John Lewis went on to open a second store after acquiring Peter Jones in Sloane Square. John Lewis’ son John Spedan Lewis founded the John Lewis Partnership in 1920. The John Lewis Partnership purchased Jessops in Nottingham, its first store outside London in 1933. However, it was only in October 2002, that Jessops was rebranded as John Lewis.
