Hurley was founded in 1979 by 23-year-old Bob Hurley and his partner Bob Rowland and Business Manager Joe Knoernschildas Hurley Surfboards/International Pro Designs (I.P.D.)
Before founding the company, Hurley worked for five years as a surf board shaper for various companies including Lightning Bolt; Wind-an-Sea and Wave Tools.
Having gained a reputation as a premiere shaper in Southern California, Hurley licensed the U.S. rights to the up-and-coming Australian surf brand Billabong and formed Billabong USA in 1983.
Located in Costa Mesa, California the Hurley clothing manufacturing company was founded by Bob Hurley. The company famous for skateboarding, surfing, and music has been owned by Nike since 2002.
