The Hub is the group’s second store as it is also planning to open a store at the Two Rivers Shopping Mall, located in the upmarket Nairobi suburb of Runda.
Construction is in progress, with an expected completion date during September 2015. The hypermarket is set to lease a 250000ft² retail area, 22000ft² of open piazza to be used for exhibitions and events, a parking area, a play area for kids, an entertainment arcade for all ages, a large area of water with walking trails, along with modern security systems.
Carrefour has already arranged space leasing at the Two Rivers Lifestyle Mall. It is set to occupy 100000ft² or 16.1% of the overall complex, which is due for completion by October 2015.
Carrefour opened its first hypermarket in France on June 15, 1963, in Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois. At the end of 2013, it had 1421 hypermarkets, with 2345 located in France, 475 in other parts of Europe, 371 in Asia, 277 in Latin America, and 64 in several other countries.
