Ingka Centres, a part of the Ingka Group, has unveiled Saluhall, a new plant-forward food hall located at its downtown Meeting Place in San Francisco. This marks Ingka Centres’ first venture into the United States.
Features and offerings
Local Food Entrepreneurs: Saluhall provides a platform for local food entrepreneurs from the Bay Area, showcasing their talents and offerings.
Diverse Culinary Experiences: With capacity for 450 seats, Saluhall features lively bars, five independent local food vendors, an in-house bakery restaurant, vegan burger bar, and soft-serve station, offering a variety of culinary experiences.
Plant-Forward Cuisine: Developed by Claus Meyer & Ko, the in-house bakery restaurant, Smörgåsland, offers Scandinavian-inspired, plant-forward dishes sourced seasonally and locally.
Cooking Skola: Saluhall also hosts the Cooking Skola, offering cooking lessons and demonstrations to promote a love for plant-forward cuisine from around the world.
Management and operation
Operated by KERB: Saluhall will be managed by KERB, experts in incubating new food businesses, providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Local Employment: The food hall will employ over 50 people from the local area, contributing to the community.
Design and concept
Scandinavian Design: Inspired by Scandinavian design principles, Saluhall offers an elevated culinary venue with beautiful Scandi design elements.
Community-Centered: Saluhall aims to be a community-centered space, offering affordable and sustainable food experiences in a comfortable and safe environment.
Location and transformation
Former 6×6 Mall: Ingka Centres acquired 945 Market Street in September 2020 and transformed the former 6×6 mall into a vibrant destination, anchored by a new format IKEA opened in August 2023.
Meeting Place: The Meeting Place spans approximately 256,000 square feet and includes Saluhall along with other offerings like Hej!Workshop with Industrious, a flexible working concept.
Future expansion
Global Presence: Ingka Centres operates 34 Meeting Places worldwide, with more in development across Europe, India, and China.
Dining and Sustainability Hubs: Dining and sustainability hubs are becoming increasingly important elements of the visitor experience in Ingka Centres’ Meeting Places, reflecting evolving consumer preferences.
