For residents in Brookfield and its surrounding areas, a long wait is finally coming to a close. As Brookfield Elm Grove Now reports, the much anticipated mixed-use lifestyle center known as The Corners is slated to open this weekend.
The project, developed by UK-based IM Properties and Chicago-based Bradford Real Estate, has been in the works for some years. Bradford took control of the project from previous developer The Marcus Corporation back in 2014 and hadn’t looked back. The ground was broken in May 2015, and Von Maur was signed on to serve as an anchor tenant last year.
“We are thrilled and honored to welcome guests to the center this Saturday to celebrate the opening of Von Maur and our first batch of retailers. We know there has been much excitement and anticipation from the community as the project has evolved over the past few years and this is an exciting milestone to celebrate,” said IM Properties vice president of U.S. operations Robert Gould.
This isn’t your average, everyday suburban shopping mall either. IM and Bradford had their sights set on a modern complex inspired by the desires of today’s consumers, and it sounds like they knocked it out of the park. “Our vision has always been that The Corners will be a place for people to live, shop, dine and be entertained,” Gould said.
In addition to the roughly 400,000 square feet of shopping and dining space that will house names such as L.L. Bean, Scout & Molly’s and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, The Corners also includes 244 luxury apartments that are managed by The Mandel Group. Additionally, the exciting new project has its sights set on serving as a community center and will feature a market square area with space to host events and other community gatherings.
“I think this was well beyond the dreams that we had originally. This piece of property is like something you would see in downtown Chicago. It’s very high-end, it’s unbelievable,” said town supervisor John Schatzman
For inspiration, Gould and the development team looked across the pond to create a lifestyle center that is positioned to be a huge hit. “In Europe, such places have for centuries been called the Town Center. That is what the town of Brookfield deserves. It will take the time to evolve, but we are determined to bring a unique experience to our customers,” Gould continued.
Von Maur and other retailers will open their doors this weekend, and a slew of others will join them in the coming weeks and months.
