The center sits on 43000m², with 200 specialist stores, of which 90 have made their entry into Stuttgart for the first time.
The Europaviertel has been built on a former freight train station site, close to Stuttgart Central Station and next to the city center. Apart from the city library which was opened during 2011, Milaneo has become the heart of the new quarter. The center, including the underground parking garage, was developed by a partnership between STRABAG Real Estate and ECE.
The plans include the construction of a 165-room hotel, office space and 415 apartments measuring a total of 7400m² by summer of 2015. These will be placed above the shopping center. The hotel and the office space are due to be constructed by Bayerische Hausbau. The complex has received an investment in excess of €550m, with Hamburg Trust obtaining 78% of the center, inclusive of the underground parking area.
It is one of the first developments to be awarded the gold pre-certificate of the German Sustainable Building Council. It received the MIPIM Award for Best Futura Mega Project during 2013 at the real estate show in Cannes.
