McDonald’s has decided to temporarily suspend its offices in the U.S. in preparation for the restructuring and downsizing. The Wall Street Journal reports it regarding the company’s internal documents.
Employees from the U.S. and several other countries will work remotely from April 3 to 5, 2023. The company promises to make “key decisions regarding roles and headcount in the organization” this week. Exactly how many employees will be laid off has not yet been disclosed. The company also urged its employees to cancel all scheduled meetings with contractors at its Chicago headquarters.
The planned redundancies at McDonald’s became known in January 2023. Then a document appeared in the network, in which the head of the corporation, Chris Kempczynski, warned of the reshuffle by April 3. It was reported that the company expects to save money by reevaluating the need to use labor. Exact details on the extent of the cuts were still not given.
McDonald’s lost about 18% in 2022, earning $6.18 billion. The company’s staff was estimated at 200,000 employees at the end of 2021, with more than 75% working outside the United States. McDonald’s franchise restaurants employed about 2 million additional people.
