Westgate Mall Brockton

About this mall

Westgate Mall is a shopping mall in the city of Brockton, Massachusetts. It is the oldest enclosed shopping mall in the state.
The 600,000-square-foot (56,000 m2) mall opened in 1963 and was substantially renovated in 2000, reversing a trend of nearly a decade of decline wherein nearly all of the stores had vacated the center. Nearby malls, including South Shore Plaza and Silver City Galleria, dominated the market in the past 15 years, but the Westgate Mall today has repositioned itself as a smaller, more convenient alternative and as a result business has improved.
The center also has substantial development on its outlots, including nearby outlets of Lowe’s, Papa Gino’s, a former Chuck E. Cheese, Texas Roadhouse, Modell’s and a cinema turned into Dick’s Sporting Goods and Toys “Я” Us and Wal-Mart.
The mall’s original south anchor store, originally a Boston-based Gilchrist’s, and later a Jordan Marsh and Macy’s, was torn down. Construction started on a new 12-screen multiplex cinema (replacing the old south anchor store) in the spring of 2008. The theatre should be completed by mid-2009.
