About this mall
The Pier Shops at Caesars is a shopping mall located on the four-story Pier at Caesars on the Atlantic City Boardwalk adjacent to Caesars Atlantic City in Atlantic City, New Jersey via second-story skybridge, constructed by Perini Building Company of Framingham, MA. It was opened in 1906 as the Million Dollar Pier, being renamed as The Shops on Ocean One in 1983 and again in 2006 as The Pier Shops at Caesars.
The Show is the largest indoor water fountain display in a mall setting. It opened in June 2006. The fountain is choreographed and interactive with game features. The fountain show performs on the hour and has both a day show and a night show. The show is routinely met with applause from audiences. Generally, the most popular viewing spot is from the mall’s second floor.
Financial Problems
Taubman Group, owners of the pier shops, said it was no longer able to make payments on a $135 million mortgage. The company, which has 77 percent equity in the property, said it has plans to write down the value of the mall by $106 million to $111 million, and the Pier’s book value would drop to $52 million under the arrangement.
The pier opened in 2006 as part of the Atlantic City Revitalization Project.
