About this mall
South Coast Plaza is placed close to the most beautiful beaches and resorts in the world. It is the hub of luxury shopping with personal shopping services and out-of-this-world boutiques. It offers shoppers top quality restaurants and a wide collection of retail stores.
It currently hosts about 24 million annual visitors. It offers 260,000m² of rentable space, with more than 250 stores. This makes it one of the biggest and highest grossing shopping centres in the U.S, with revenue generation of around US$1.5 billion annually.
The structure is well-designed. During 1973, the angular Bullock’s wing was added and in 1977, the I. Magnin wing was added, designed by Welton Becketand and Frank Gehry respectively. During 1982, Isamu Noguchi, the sculptor, was commissioned to design a small plaza at the end of the centre.
The expansions during 1986/87 brought postmodern architecture to the design with a recurring pyramid design. Carousels are strategically placed in rest areas. Visitors have a wide choice of luxury brand stores, such as Versace, Dior, Prada and Rolex.
