Mounds Mall

About this mall

Mounds Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in the city of Anderson, Indiana, United States. Opened in November 1964, it was the first enclosed shopping mall developed by Simon Property Group. The center features three anchor stores: two Elder-Beerman locations and Sears, as well as a small food court and a multiplex movie theater. It also includes more than thirty other tenants.
Mounds Mall was developed by Melvin Simon & Associates (now Simon Property Group), opening in 1965 as that company’s first enclosed mall property. Original stores included Montgomery Ward, H. P. Wasson and Company, Hoyt, Wright & Co., Woolworth and a combined Kroger/SupeRx grocery store and pharmacy. After Wasson’s closed, the store became Weiler’s, then Meis, and then Elder-Beerman. The Montgomery Ward closed and was replaced by Sears. A later expansion added JCPenney, which closed in May 2003  and was demolished for the mall’s movie theaters.
