About this mall
Metropolis is a open-air lifestyle center located in Plainfield, Indiana, just 10 miles southwest of Indianapolis. A progressive shopping and entertainment destination, Metropolis has given Westside shoppers a regional shopping destination. JC Penney, Rave Theatres, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Barnes & Noble anchor Metropolis and are joined by first-time Westside retailers Victoria’s Secret, J. Jill, Ann Taylor Loft, Coldwater Creek, and Chico’s. Metropolis offers several restaurants including the new concept, Centro Italian Kitchen, Claddagh Irish Pub, Stone Creek Dining Company, and Panera Bread.
Metropolis was opened in October 2005 with 550,000 sq ft of retail, restaurants and entertainment venues. Once complete in 2008, the center will encompass 850,000 sq ft.
Phase I is almost complete, with most shops filled. Phase II was supposed to begin in Spring-Summer 2007 and be nearly double the size of Phase I. However, because of bankruptcy, Phase II is on hold and the company that owns the property, Pinnacle, is looking to sell the mall.
Metropolis is located in Hendricks County, Indiana, the second fastest growing county in Indiana and the 62nd fastest growing county in the nation. Second only to its breakthrough retail strength is the advantage of Metropolis’ accessibility with two existing exits off of I-70 and a third under development to serve as the new main entrance for the expanding Indianapolis International Airport. In addition, US 40 is a four-lane, east-west passageway through Hendricks County directly passing Metropolis.
