Located next to the famous Berlin Zoo, Bikini Berlin is a unique concept shopping mall with stores, offices, cinema, and hotel, a day and nighttime destination for locals and tourists alike. Aimed at a style-conscious audience with high standards when it comes to a shopping experience, Bikini Berlin opened in late 2013 after a 3-year renovation that preserved the initial character of the venue.
The mall, follows a very conceptual approach with modern architecture and a sel ected mixture of retail stores and catering tenants. The centerpiece of the building complex is the historical 200-meter long Bikinihaus, a light, open colonnade and architectural symbol of Berlin’s west cityscape. Popularly called Bikinihaus due to its two-tier architecture that is reminiscent of the revealing two-piece swim garment, the building’s lower three floors contain a selection of retail stores and restaurants unique to Germany (no international chain stores here) with an integral part of the space containing modular wooden specialty shops known as Bikini Berlin boxes.
Except for the supermarket Kaiser’s, you cannot find any “common” chain store tenants in Bikini Berlin.
The mall is located next to the famous Berlin Zoo, in the west of the cit of Belin. It is very well served bu public transport.
The vibrant 1950s architecture, which is combined with modern utilisation concepts, gives Bikini Berlin its unique flair. In particular the façade design, which is Bikini Berlin’s calling card, is a successful mix of history and modernity.
The highlight of the architectural design can be found to the rear of the Bikinihaus and covers an area of 7000 square metres: the freely accessible, green rooftop terrace, on a two-storey new build facing the Zoological Garden. Below the terrace, which serves as a green oasis in the middle of the city, is the BIKINI BERLIN POOL with a total area of 3300 square metres. This area is home to a total of nineteen BIKINI BERLIN BOXES for varying, short-term tenants: flexible modular systems made fr om wood, which are available in five sizes between 19 and 39 square metres and have a purposely minimalistic design. This understatement leaves maximum scope for the ideas of the respective tenants and turns the spotlight onto the ideas and products that can be presented here with comparably low cost and a high level of flexibility. The BIKINI BERLIN POOL also includes an adaptable event area that will appeal to additional visitors with different events and exhibitions.
