Ingka Centres will invest 170 million euros to expand the Kungens Kurva mall in Stockholm. The project will give the mall an additional 28,000 square meters of retail space – shopping, leisure and beauty. In addition, a common entrance will integrate IKEA with the mall.
Ingka promises to open the Matvärlden grocery store at Kungens Kurva in the fourth quarter of 2024 – this will be the first phase of the mall’s renovation. The entire project will run for ten years – the renovation will take place in several stages and be completed in 2033.
“Ingka Centres commences the most extensive transformation of Kungens Kurva since IKEA’s opening here in 1965. Over the next decade, we will create an entirely new meeting place and destination for all things food, fashion, leisure and play,” says Yvonne Arentoft, Meeting Place Manager at Kungens Kurva Shoppingcenter.
The first phase of the renovated mall will include approximately 7,000 square meters, focusing on food, beauty and fashion. The Matvärlden store will offer products from all over the world and will combine its own bakery and restaurant. The catering hall will occupy 2,000 square meters.
As part of the following phases in the renovation of Kungens Kurva, a further 21,000 square meters of space will be opened and combined with IKEA into a single retail space.
“It feels fantastic to finally be underway! With this expansion, we are shaping the meeting place of the future. The way we shop and our expectations have evolved, especially during the pandemic, and it is our mission to meet those demands”, said Yvonne Arentoft, Meeting Place Manager at Kungens Kurva Shoppingcenter.
