Hanover Park shopping center hoping new building will get village approval

The retail corridor located at Barrington and Irving Park Roads has performed better than the other business districts in the village and this has resulted in Tony’s Finer Foods being placed on one side of the bustling intersection, with Menards on the other side.
During May of 2013, the grocer based in Itasca moved into the Westview shopping center in Hanover Park, a few months after the closure of Ultra Foods.  Aside from this bit of progress, developers have nothing new to offer a potential tenant for the standalone, building in Westview which has been vacant for a long time.
This prompted Brixmor Property Group, New York, to devise a new plan.  They intend breaking down the Bakers Square restaurant and constructing a building of 5614ft², looking on to Barrington Road.  The owner of the center has a vision for a retailer, service business and restaurant for the three available spaces.
Brixmor is asking for a special-use permit for a drive-through on the southern side of the building.  This has gained village planning support as it will remove the shuttered Bakers eyesore from the entrance to the town.
The board in the village is due to vote on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
A timeline has been set for the destruction of Bakers, but the developers are keen to have leases in place with at least two tenants before they commence.
