About this mall

Place d’Armes is located just next to City Hall in the very heart of the city Valenciennes. 
The Place d’Armes shopping center is part of a broader urban transformation program undertaken by the city, known as “Valenciennes 2007.” It is the flagship project within the multi-purpose Cœur de Ville program, which also includes the construction of 140 residences, more than 1 800 square meters of office 
space and nearly 630 underground parking spaces located beneath the shopping center. 
Covering 16, 200 square meters of GLA over two levels, the Place d’Armes center offers shoppers 53 retail outlets. Some 35 of the retail anchors selected by Place d’Armes are being located in Valenciennes for the first time, thereby gaining access to a rapidly expanding urban area. 
Its 60 smaller stores reinforce the appeal of the downtown area for the 570,000 inhabitants within the catchment area.

Location and accessibility 

The site has remarkably good access: the tramway, direct access to an underground car park with 630 slots, convergence of major roads and the 9 town-center bus routes. The 2 new retailers will have a 30-slot bicycle parking at their disposal.

Features mall architecture

The site has two façades on two streets, rue Derrière la Tour opposite the Place d’Armes center and rue des Hospices.
Designed by the architectural firm Alluin & Mauduit, the two-level shopping center integrates materials that have great cultural significance for Valenciennes: brick and metal, the symbol of industrialization and the department stores built in the 19th century. A large glass canopy signals the principal entrance on the Place d’Armes square.
