Until the end of the year, Carrefour stores will freeze prices for many goods: about 20 thousand items in hypermarkets and more than 10 thousand items in small chain branches. The company informs that this rule excludes promotional goods, fresh products with highly fluctuating prices (such as fish, seasonal fruits, and vegetables), and goods from local producers. Supermarket chain expects to keep its customers on the background of a declining population purchasing power.
Carrefour’s representatives note that freezing prices will help the company support families in Belgium during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and maintain their purchasing power.
The network continues to develop and simplify home order functions, as many people continue to work remotely and do not leave their homes. The company has also increased the number of employees processing online orders to speed up the collection and delivery process.
As a result of coronavirus security measures introduced in Belgium, stores are temporarily allowed to sell only essential goods. For this reason, Carrefour has organized an “order and pick up” service for goods not on the government list, such as textiles and toys. Shoppers can order them not only online but also by phone and directly from stores.
