Brooklyn Welcomes Retail Giant Century 21

Written by:

This will be one of two new locations in Brooklyn for the franchise which specializes in discount designer apparel and accessories. Each of the new locations will be nestled in gentrifying neighborhoods.

The first new store is a massive flagship store in City Point, located in downtown Brooklyn. City Point is a brilliant 1.8 million square foot, billion dollar development flush with unique and exciting opportunities for shopping, dining and entertainment.

The 140,000 square foot store will take up four floors. It will be the 11th Century 21 for the New York-based retailer. Famous for its line of top designer clothes for men, women and children, as well as top brand accessories, cosmetics and home products in a boutique setting, the new store will be the first full line department store to open in downtown Brooklyn in five decades. The new location will create over 300 full- and part-time jobs. It will feature a LXR&CO vintage luxury boutique, Italian restaurateur Fortina, a Brooklyn Roasting Company Café, DeKalb Market Hall, Trader Joe’s and a MAC Cosmetics. This Century 21 will be the retailer’s second largest behind its Manhattan store which is 220,00 square feet.

Century 21

Century 21 is a family owned and operated business with a 50 plus year background. Century 21 has slowly expanded its presence nationally. Two of its most recent launches were in Philadelphia and Valley Stream’s Green Acres Mall in New York. Their expansion has been compared to discount giants like T.J. Maxx. On the drawing table, the retailer has plans for another store in Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida. Century 21 is also experimenting with pop-ups. Down the line, the company expects to open a branch in the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers, New York, and another in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the American Dream entertainment and retail complex.

The new store is located in City Point at 445 Albee Square West. The 1.8 million square foot center, filled with residential, retail and commercial office space, is accessible via Fulton Street.

Century 21 expanded its ecommerce operations in 2015. It also launched its first credit card in partnership with Alliance Data Systems.

Century 21 isn’t the only store headed to Brooklyn. Discount retailer Saks Off 5th – not affiliated with Saks Fifth Avenue – will be opening a store at Sunset Park’s Liberty View Industrial Plaza not far from Industry City. Owned and operated by Hudson’s Bay Company, the new spot will be an approximately 31,000 square foot operation, offering shoppers an inventory of over 800 brands. It will be Off 5th’s first store in the borough of Brooklyn. They opened their first store in Manhattan earlier this year. This marked the debut of an in-store Gilt boutique just months after Off 5th was acquired.

With over 90 stores worldwide, Saks Off 5th is a family owned business that’s expanding into Germany and Canada as well.
