Arcadia Group

About this brand

Arcadia Group Ltd. (formerly Arcadia Group plc and Burton Group plc) is a British multinational retailer with its headquarters based in London. The group owns several high street clothing retailers like Evans, Burton, BHS, Wallis, Topshop and Topman. The Arcadia Group has over 2,500 outlets in the United Kingdom and is the largest business interest of retailing magnate Sir Philip Green. The company is owned by his Monaco-resident wife, Tina.

The company was founded in 1903 by 18-year old Montague Burton, a Lithuanian immigrant, under the name The Cross-Tailoring Company. The first store was a men’s clothing manufacturing, tailoring and retailing business. This was the foundation of the current Burton Menswear chain, which is still part of the business today. In 1910, the company’s headquarters was moved from Chesterfield to Leeds, and the business name was changed to Burton. In 1929, the business had 400 stores, mills and factories and was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

When the decision was made to de-merge from Debenhams in 1997, Burton became Arcadia Group plc. In June 1998, Arcadia acquired Wade-Smith which allowed the company to expand its business into the childrenswear market.

Arcadia currently operates these following brands; BHS, Burton, Evans, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Outfit (out-of-town stores), Topman, Tammy, Topshop, and Wallis. Some of the countries where Acardia’s brands are available are; Australia, Armenia, Bahrain, Brazil, Cyprus, Egypt, Denmark, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, UAE and many other countries.
