Amazon has decided to relaunch its drone-based order delivery project in the UK. The drone startup will be relaunched in 2024. Amazon expects to start using drones to deliver goods from drop-off locations again. The locations involved in the pilot have not yet been named.

The relaunch in the UK is part of a strategy to grow the drone segment in retail. Amazon also plans to launch a similar project in Italy and another state in the US after Texas and California.

The internet giant first tested the Prime Air system in Cambridgeshire, UK in 2016. The announcement notes that Prime Air delivery is launching “internationally, for the first time outside of the US”.Amazon is working with the government and aviation authorities to reintroduce drones into UK airspace.

Aviation minister Baroness Vere, said: ‘Amazon’s announcement today is a fantastic example of government and industry coming together to achieve our shared vision for commercial drones to be commonplace in the UK by 2030.”Not only will this help boost the economy by offering consumers even more choice while helping keep the environment clean with zero emission technology, but it will also build our understanding of how to best use the new technology safely and securely.”
