The redevelopment will offer 1300 new jobs to the borough.

The redevelopment of the 42-year old Staten Island Mall was first revealed during May of 2014.  Construction will commence after city approvals have been gained, and is due to be completed by 2017.

The project includes a public piazza which will be used for holiday festivities, community fundraisers, fashion shows and a farmers market.  Macy’s will have the space to expand.  There will be a 53000ft² cinema installed at the center.

The senior marketing manager of the Mall, David Albertson, has refused to provide details regarding the expansion, but recently filed documents on the website of the City Planning Department indicates that there is application for 88000ft² of non-department store retail, a 50000ft² supermarket, 75000ft² Macy’s expansion, 41000ft² of department store retail, 34000ft² of restaurants, an 11000ft² food court and a 54000ft² movie theater.  The document is still due to undergo an environmental review.

There have been changes to the original plans filed last year, which include a total expansion reduction from 444835ft² to 426576ft², with a reduction in parking spaces from 1500 to 1413.  There are currently around 1780 parking spaces at the Mall.
