: SOUTH COAST PLAZA - Costa Mesa, California

South Coast Plaza

This ultra luxurious shopping mall is located in Costa Mesa, California and first opened its doors in 1976. The mall is essentially two separate enclosed malls. South Coast Plaza has over 24 million visitors every year and spans approximately 2.6 million square feet. It showcases over 280 stores and 4 entertainment venues making it one of the largest malls in the United States. This whopping center generates nearly $1.5 billion a year. It also hosts the Orange Lounge, which is a digital media branch of the Orange County Museum of Art. High end stores such as Rolex, Chloe, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Valentino, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bullock’s and Nordstrom are also tenants in this massive complex.

Other big retailers including Bloomingdales, Macys and Sears are also apparent. The mall also features restaurants such as Lawry’s Carvery, Charlie Palmer, Armani Cafe and Vie de France instead of a food court. Upscale services are also abundant with valet parking, concierge services, courtesy umbrellas and a hot beverage service. Since 2007, the mall hosts an annual 10-day event called Fashion Plates which promotes its restaurants and offers shoppers to dine at discounted rates. Recently, the mall changed its appearance to include Italian ivory marble for floors and travertine to enclose new water and fountain features. Shoppers will find modern and contemporary oil-rubbed bronze railings throughout the complex. It is considered virtually a small city as it is a vast shopping, dining and entertainment complex. With its renowned outdoor areas and a property that spans to include luxury hotels, banks, fountains, art gardens and theatres – it is one of the most profitable malls in the US. It should come as no surprise that this mall is considered the Rodeo Drive of Orange County, California.
